You would better to go with strong dedicated server having good configuration. I don't think, any shared hosting provider will allow you to host that much traffic site.

Yeah you should really look for a good dedicated server for this kind of traffic.

What kind of website are you hosting?

Based on your initial response, I don't see how shared hosting has been the best at this point. I would absolutely recommend at the very least a decent VPS or semi-dedicated server. Preferably a dedicated server if you can run that into your budget. Most web hosts are certainly going to limit your CPU/RAM resources when using shared so in my own opinion, any decent worthwhile host is going to make this recommendation to you and may even decline to offer you shared hosting with such resources needed. What exactly is your monthly budget?

You have to optimize Apache, MySQL and PHP on your server. Search on Google, there are plenty of tutorials online.

If you need 2 GB of RAM you need to look at dedicated server options. VPS with such configuration will cost you much more.

So you are saying the VPS and Dedicated could not hold your website, but shared hosting could? Interesting. What were the specs of both the VPS and Dedi?

Do you think about load balancing e.g to buy 3 hosting accounts the first one for mysql the second for apache and the third for static content (images) ? :)

I don't see how a shared account would work better for you but if it works, why change it.
Might search over a WHT about any host you may consider, see what others have said about them.

You should get a dedicated server, Checkout for breezehost offers , they are offering managed services for dedicated servers with no additional cost.

If you can afford 100$ / month, I would suggest go for dedicated server or VPS. You will find many and they can easily hold 5000 people. If you are looking for shared hosting that cost 12$ per month or so, it will go down on some point.
