Receiving the message 'ad_network.php file needs updating' for all my ad links. I logged into the coop ad section and updated with the latest file setup which appears there and am still receiving the same message. Am I perhaps doing something wrong? I do one minor modification to the script which is specify the location of the 'ad_network_ads.txt' file. That is all.
Flush the contents of the ad_network_ads.txt file after you update the ad_network.php file. If that doesn't work, give your URL.
Its not giving me the error anymore. It was consistently doing this for the past 30 minutes. ----------- When I first noticed this error, I had validation problems. It looked like the cache reset itself. It was serving one ad for all 5 ads. I then cleared the ads file and began receiving the error. This is when I updated my file. Approximately 30 minutes later the ads began appearing again.
Altering the output of the ads is not supported. If you use the default PHP code and don't alter the HTML of the ads, you should be fine.
I'm validated once again. I'm simply adding in a CSS class and having it go to a new page. Had to, otherwise the ads would be masked colorwise which is against your TOS. Not to mentioned it'd be ugly.
Use CSS outside of the ads. Trust me on this one. If you alter any part of the HTML of the ads themselves, you will end up failing validation.
Hey shawn, I'll get to making the appropriate modifications to the websites on my account a little later today. Working on a few projects that are on a need to get done now basis at the moment. I'm assuming you did something for my digitalkeg.com domain so that it could be validated is this correct? If yes, would you mind doing the same for the following domains? I know how finicky the SEs are and I really can't put my focus on this right at this moment and I'd really appreciate this. digitalkeg.com candlestocrave.com everythingbridalforyou.com gardenbuddies.net byte4d45.com Thank you for responding so quickly by the way, I appreciately it. That and all your hard work on the free tools your site has to offer.
You're correct. I updated all the files for those sites with the new file and they work again. By the way, I think I might be exploiting a bug in the network which is giving me more weight. This isn't by choice, only by accident. Has to do with sub-domains. I added my domain 'http://www.digitalkeg.com'. Eventually I found time to add this to my forums and the LoGD game I host. Reading the forums, I had the idea that I needed to create a new account for my sub-domains so I did and binded them to my master account. Before binding, I noticed I received "referal weight" for both sub-domains. The system still gave me the referal weight after I binded the accounts to my master account. Next issue. After my post concerning sub-domains, I changed my domain from 'http://www.digitalkeg.com' to 'http://digitalkeg.com' and I gained quite a bit more weight. Not quite as much as the combination of forums.digitalkeg.com and logd.digitalkeg.com, little less than half. To me, this seems a little odd. So long story short... - Referred weight is retained when binding to master account in addition to weight gained. - Can gain additional weight by creating accounts for sub-domains, binding to master account and simply using 'http://domainname.com' for the URL of the main domain name. If this is supposed to work this way, then wonderful, more weight for me. If not, then let me know what I can do to help you troubleshoot.
You aren't exploiting anything with the referral because the amount of weight given to the referrer, comes OUT of the account being referred. If you refer yourself, it all evens out. It's all supposed to work that way.
Sounds good to me. I have a clear conscious then. Thanks for all your help Shawn. I'll look into a better solution to make the links 'pretty' without having to add anything within the anchor tag.
