    Hello

I have a wordpress site which was running on a custom theme. Our host updated the PHP version from 7.4 to 8.1.
The site is now giving error for 1-2 plugins and theme. Can any help get this fixed.

    TIA

Hello, at first you need to make sure that the bug comes indeed from the PHP version.

The 7.4 was introduced in 28 November 2019, and the 8.1 in November 2025. Normally the plugins should have a updated version to download, check it on your backend. I am not ure if a "too new" PHP version can brake your theme, to be checked with the devloper.

Here are 4 things you can do :

1- Create a non-indexable staging website : you will work on this avatar rather than on your live business.
2- On the staging website, deactivate every plugin one by one to check if the problems comes indeed from a plugin.
3- Install a simple theme, apply this theme, and check if the bug persists.
4- If you use a service such as CPanel or Webuzzo (and others), you can directly change the PHP version by yourself. Be aware that this change will affect your whole server, not just the staging.
