I am going to create a site for which I will be writing eBooks and distribute them at no charge to people, with no signing up required. I want to think of a creative name, all I got so far is "Conceptary" - kind of like "observatory" obly observing concepts. I don't like this name much, so maybe someone can help me out with this business startup? After all, most of you, probably will read some of the stuff I'm going to publish there Thinking of a name is the least you can do to help me out, please Thanks in advance!
Part of braniding, especially a non-profit, is conveying a sense of mission. Are you doing this to acutally help people, or is it a way to drive traffic to another for-profit site? What are the e-books about? There are many factors that go into branding, we need more info. BTW, I sit on the board of three major non-profits in NYC. If this is somehow tied to a profit making venture, I'd advise against it.
The books will be webmaster-related, telling about businesses online and how people can profit from them. My mission is to provide backing for my theories, and not just give a '100% guarantee' of income. They will be case studies, showing how I did it, so that others can repeat my steps one after another. The only profit tied to this is going to be affiliate links inside the eBooks, but that's about it.
When you use the term 'non profit' people assume it's a group like Save The Children or The American Cancer Society, where YOU get NO financial benefit. There's a subtle, but important, difference between 'non-profit' and 'giving stuff away to build credibilty and links'. IMO, I wouldn't call it non-profit. I'd call it 'complimentary' or something else. If you have links in the book to affiliates, you profit. Yes, the book might be free, but the links pay YOU. This smacks of scumbag, if you package it as 'non-profit' and then gain from the links. If you give away the affiliate money to charity, 100% of it, then it's non-profit. It's your call.
