I need to learn French since I will be moving over to Canada soon and it seems to be a big plus to know that language. Problem is that I don't want to waste my time learning again what a noun is or how to build a sentence. I'm sure there must be an easier way of learning, have any of you bumped into any good products? CDs, online lessons, something like that?
Unless you are moving to Quebec, it's not that big of an advantage, any second language will do. If you really want to learn it watch French TV shows.
Yes, roman1 is right. When I lived in BC, they didn't even teach French in school... they taught Spanish. English is the national language everywhere except Quebec and the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Hull). In Vancouver, I doubt you'll find anyone who speaks it anyway. You'll probably be more likely to need Japanese or Chinese.
Lol, I just can't picture myself speaking Chinese I'm glad to hear that, to be honest I didn't like the idea at all, I do want to learn another language, but not French. I was thinking of Italian, I love that language and would rather learn something that I am interested in.
I've never been able to learn from CD's. Fryman, you should take a French class. It might be a good place to meet some girls. BTW- when are you leaving for TGWN?
Yeah, I am planning to go to some language school, but I'd also like to check out any CDs or stuff like that You lost me, Rob, what is "TGWN"?
Cool... got to remember that one! I'll take a short visit on November to check out the school where I will be studying and where I'll be staying, and I will be moving over in April next year, just need to get hold of quite a big amount of money I need to pay for the tuition
Make sure you watch this movie a dozen times before April. Unless you want to get your clothes HORKED! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...1/103-9304990-4323863?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846
Everything I know about Canada I learned from Strange Brew and Canadian Bacon (the movie not the meat treat).
I saw a reference to Vancouver but I can't find it in your posts where you said exactly where in Canada you will be going to school???? What are you going to do with your Mexico location? How long will you be going to school? What will you be studying? BTW they say the way to learn a language is to take a lover who speaks that language. It always sounded like a good idea to me. Beats the hell out of CDs.
You also have to watch as many episodes of Red Geen as possible and you should at least be familiar with 1,000 uses for Duct Tape.
The best way is to move to the country with the language you want to learn, get read of all your english friends, study something in the foreign language. Its going to be very hard but its the quickest way. Im now fluent after only two years.
Between Strange Brew and Red Green, that pretty much covers everything there is to know about Canada... all the rest is in Trailer Park Boys... Did someone mention duck tape?
Last time I downloaded the standard tutorials form this: http://www.frenchtutorial.com/standard/ I don't know if it helps because I don't have time to learn it.
this one might help to speak Canadian ... eh! www.tourcanada.com/comedy.htm ... still debating their example of a Canadian beaver ... The beaver is furry ... I've seen furry ones, then again I've seen ones that are ... have fun!
BBC has good French lessons. But unless you go for total immersion, the best way is to join a language school lika Alliance Francaise. Good luck!
