    Hi,

    I was using Macromedia Dreamweaver 2004....it was great but now I have Vista and I need to know is there a better program and what is the best price?

    I need the WYSIWYG part of the program so please give me your reviews and suggestions.

    Thanks a ton

    <irony>

    Notepad, PSPad, Gedit, Vi, Nano...

    </irony>

    Ok seriously now... don't use Dreamweaver unless you just need fast made bloated code without understanding it... ;)

    Finally, if you really need WYSIWYG... then there isn't any reasonable alternative to Dreamweaver... stick to it.

    lol

    notepad FTW!!!

    @domaindigger

    if you want a decent program then here is what you should do:
    get rid of vista and switch to XP
    then you can start using Macromedia Dreamweaver again!

    or

    you can use MS Front Page... i think they have a working one for vista

    you see, it's really hard to find a working software for vista because nothing works for vista... except... notepad?

    Thanks for the input all.... I know it would be great to go back to Vista but this computer came with it and I am trying to see if I can make it work for me.

    I have heard of Coffeecup but not the Topstyle Pro so I will check it out.

    Have the improved the code with the latest version of Dreamweaver?

    I just don't have the time to teach myself all of the ins and outs of making a "beautiful" site so I have to stick with DW or the like.

    Thanks for giving me some directions to check out.

    How many of you use/used Dreamweaver and what did you like or dislike about it. I am really trying to learn the art of designing websites but I want the code to be SEO friendly.

    Thanks All

    Then ditch Dreamweaver. You need to use something like Notepad++, Win32pad, or some other text editor (not Wordpad). For SEO, use a strict doctype - whether it be HTML 4 or xHTML 1.0, through in a description and some good content. Design your site last. Work on the coding first, and then get some pictures and slap 'em on.

    Hey blueparukia

    I like your suggestion....just one prob, I don't really know html code well enough to just use a text editor. There must be others out there like me and so is there no program that can do all three, be WYSIWYG, SEO friendly, and simple to use without using tons of system resources, as in the case with DW?

    Just wondering. I really appreciate all of the info. I am open to all suggestions.

    thanks

    Yeah, see, the thing about that is - you have to learn to code, else it will not be "SEO friendly", it will output bloated code (Say, 80 lines of HTML for the 20 that you should have). If you can't code to a strict standard, then "SEO" will not work on your bloated, broken piece of code that will most likely NOT work on Opera and Safari (which, ironically are the mose standards compliant browsers there are).

    I started learning HTML about a month after my 14th birthday, and I was not good at it, I'll confess. But now, not quite a year later, I am incredibly standards compliant, now what validation is, and am much quicker typing. I have also learnt PHP, Javascript and XML/XSLT. All you need to do is study, be willing to learn, listen to people, and don't give up.

    Thanks for the encouragement:). Maybe, I will need a tutor...we shall see. I will look at a few tutorials and see what happens from there. Thanks again.
