My site went live last summer. I have meta descriptions and meta keywords for my website but they don't always show up in the SERPS. I also have good keywords, I follow the KEI formula. I'm constantly updating, pinging and submitting to directories. Still, I have yet to see significant traffic. Is it because my site is still new?

First off a PR5 is pretty good, press releases could help, basically whatever the client did to get to PR5, continue with it and possibly scale it up

 

Definitely use meta tags, as these help the search engine crawlers know what your content is.

Also, it might be worth reviewing the sites that are ranking higher than your client's site. Check their backlinks and then match those links and add more.

Make sure the linkbuilding takes place over a period of time, rather than in one hit, as Google looks at the number of links coming to your site and the speed at which they're growing (the speed should increase over time as more and more people find your site useful and share it with others). Google is looking for a natural growth pattern.
