Need to create an admin area for php/MySql site

I have a site that is based on php/mysql.

I need to make an admin area so I don't have to add info via MyPhpAdmin.

I am pretty sure I can make the part that connects with the database and inputs the info but I don't know how to make the login part.

Is there an "off the shelf" solution for this? Can anyone point me to a tutorial?

Should I forget the whole endeavor?

There are a few options you can download from phpclasses.org and then plug into your system.

If you are using smarty on your site I think they have a standard example too.
