Will it work if i stop getting the page cached by help of robot will it affect the other results coming right below it....or is there a better solution any one can help me out..... thanks all.
Hi, Thanks for asking. Ok i have a website and i got it SEOed from this guy. HE did his job and got paid right!! But the results coming on the top 10 on one keyword actually holds the link to the sitemap(which means if somone seeing the result clicks from google s/he would be taken to the sitmap and NOT homepage.) He has done this with almost every key phrase. Surprisingly all the keyphrases(worked on) give out 2 results simutaneously, one after the other. Like postion 8th and 9th or for some other keyphrase 32 and 33. in all cases first result of two results taht comes up, first one is always linked to site map and second homepage(the right page) As you know its not good to have people land over to the site map rather than homepage so i wanted to knwo is there a way that sitemap links could be removed/eliminated altogether so that only one results is shown which takes the user to homepage. I hope i have explained properly. THanks in advance.
you can apply to google to have the url for the sitemap removed completely from the index - you can do that in webmaster tools, (or just look up google url removal and you'll find the place to apply) - but you also need to block it from being spidered in future by robots.txt or a noindex metatag
301 redirect the sitemap to your homepage and then build a sitemap on a different page. If the seo guy did his job right the links pointing to the sitemap page will be the major factor determining ranking so redirecting them to your homepage with different content should allow the homepage to rank in place of the sitemap page. If you still need a sitemap page for your visitors the I would recommend you build one on a different url and if you are linking to it from every other page in your site I would recommend you nofollow it as it is for the benefit of your site visitors not google (submit an xml sitemap to google instead). If your seo guy ranked you based on the content of your sitemap page, (and therefore it is probably for a long tail phrase) consider changing the content of your homepage to include some of your keyphrases and make sure you get some links to it, preferably containing your keyphrase in the anchor text. Still 301 the sitemap, build another for your visitors with nofollow and submit a new xml sitemap to google. Hope this helps.
the reason your sitemap page get pick up is because it is more relevant to the keyword phrases than your homepage. so why should you change that. usually these keywords phrases is not very competitive. why not you design your sitemap page a little more attractive so people who spend time on that page to browse your other pages.
Thanks you all!! I really appreciate this. I know when ever i have my silly Qs i will get right answers to them here..... Thansk all you guys for your valuable suggestion.
Why not just put a big link on the top of the sitemap page that says "Click here to go to our home page"? Start moving sitepages and you may just lose your rank altogether.
