Wordpress's website has a section of blog templates that many well talented designers have made...best of all there is no cost for these templates. They can be found by going to wordpress's main page and selecting <extend> from the top menu, then <Themes Directory>.
Once in the Themes section you can look around and fins a theme that you like. When you do, download the theme as a zip file. Unzip it to extract its files, and ftp those files to your web host. create a directory to contain your theme in the wp-content/themes directory provided by WordPress. For example, a theme named Test should be in wp-content/themes/test. Note: you will have to create the test folder.
So after you find your theme, download it, unzip it, and upload it to your web host in the appropriate folder that you create; you can make it active by logging in to WordPress's admin panel. So log in, go to the appearance tab and select themes. Your uploaded theme should be available there, select it and the theme is now active.

This is the premise for using themes in general with WordPress. You can opt for premium themes (which cost money) as well. Uploading them and activating them through WordPress remains the same. An important thing to note is that there are different versions of wordpress, and thus there are themes that are compatible with certain versions of WordPress. If you are using the latest release of WordPress make sure that the theme you are interested in is compatible. Hope this helps.
