I get a cool 1/3rd of my traffic from Twitter. But as other members already said, it still depends on what type of website you have.

It depends on the individuals website or blog and also depending on where we optimized to get more traffic. If you well optimize to get traffic from search engine, then it will reflect as your major traffic source. For me, direct traffic provides largest source of traffic. Following by Entrecard, Twitter and search engines.
If you would like to get traffic only then you should create social community and try to distribute your website link. It will bring some good amount of traffic.
It's not JUST about traffic... Just sending high amounts of traffic to your site is NOT going to be successful if the traffic does not convert. It's all about targetted traffic. Site A could get 1/1000th the traffic of Site B and yet Site A can still out convert Site B (i.e. still make more money, sell more products, etc. - whatever those sites consider a conversion).
It depends on your site niche. However, Twitter, facebook, Yahoo groups, Orkut groups, delicious bookmarks, digg.com, mixx.com are bringing more direct traffics. Apart from these, Participating on your niche related forums too will help. I completely agree as far as service/product based businesses are concerned. I would much rather have high conversions with X amount of traffic than 1,000,000 UV's a day and no conversions...unless of course you are monetizing your site with ads...then I guess it is alright if you only have information and that is the primary purpose of your site.
Who it can be other than Google try to rank in top 10 for your niche in Google and you will receive heck of a traffic.
