I need a VPS for two purpose. 1. For downloading files using torrent at 24 hours at high speed. 2. For my upcoming forum based website. I was considering windows vps which have remote desktop feature. But if I go for it I cannot start my Linux forum site on it. But the advantage I see in windows server is to install utorrent and use browsers and any windows software through remote desktop just like my PC. But if I am go for Linux vps, I can use only torrent flux to download torrents and it doesn't have remote desktop so cannot use it as a PC. But could host my forum site on it. I am now confused between windows and Linux vps. Can please help solve the problem? Also I need suggestion regarding best vps below 25$/month. I need only best reputed hosting company. Currently I have seen windows hosting offered @ $29.99 by godaddy and hostgator Linux host at $19.99.
The thing is most of companies don't allow torrents inside vps. You better need to go for a dedicated server.
Well you can host your forums on a windows platform. You need to understand that whatever you are downloading is going to be considered as bandwidth usage, so if you are running your web site and downloading the torrent from the same server you will only get two things, 1) slow connection both ways and 2) reaching bandwidth limits a lot sooner. I recommend you either putting out a bit more cash for something more stable. I would always recommend a Cloud Computerizing Instance because of the strength it contains. Even tho the price is more, it's worth it. VPSLand allows torrents from my understanding, with decent pricing too:-D
You must understand that I going to start a new site and it will need just a web host for a new site. But since I need a vps for my torrents I like to use it for my site too. The website is not going to make that much money any soon, so a vps for website will be not worthy.
If you use Linux you can download your files via FTP, however you'll need to install this on it as well. If your putting torrents and a website on the same VPS you may experience some performance issues.
