Hello. As I dont see any hardware section in DP i m posting it here for litil help. I have a old PC which i bought in 2001. Currently it is running at low ram. I want to upgrade it. My motherboard is Asrock p4i45gl. Their website says I can use upto two DDR ram of 266 bus. The problem is now a days you cant find new 266bus ram, there are 400, 800 or more . So, my question is , if i use ram of more bus speed, will it create any problem. For example using two 400 bus ram while the supported is 266. Thanks.
Visit crucial.com, go to the system scanner section, download and run the scanner (takes a few minutes) and see what results it throws up for you. Either buy it from them or use the data supplied to buy it elsewhere.
You need a DDR 400, there is no problem in your case that ram will work @ 266 (133 MHz FSB), so just buy a DDR400
i suggest you get a new computer, you can get a really good one for around $300 these days. Since you bought your comp in 2001, i'm guessing you are using those expensive and somewhat hard to find RD ram or whatever you call them.
Actually my pc is old but it has no other problem. So,although i am planning to buy a new one but I find no pint to throw it. So, I was thinking to keep it running as long as it runs. And, I dont do heavy multimedia work! And, I have just bought a new ram 512 mb,400 mhz. And my pc is running quite smoothly. Thanks a lot, u guyz for ur help and suggestions.
You can use higher frequency RAM... but it will run at lower frequency mentioned in the MOB guide. Go ahead and add 400 Mhz RAM set.
