guys, any good recommendations for stock photos? it doesn't have to be free because sometimes, you get what you pay for. I don't mind paying a few dollars for stock photos. I'm in search cityscape photos. thanks.
ive had good results with istockphoto.com they are generally very inexpensive- roughly $1 for a low res- which is fine for the web. For higher resolutions needed for print, it goes up to approx $3/image.
anything else besides those two recommendations? I've tried both but they are still limited in cityscapce stuff. I really like Getty Images but they are way too expensive.
In past Magazines we've done we used http://www.liquidlibrary.com/ you can preview images with big size, if you will have to use many images its a really good source, but not cheap a tall. We were subscrived, and the price wasn't that big, they send you DVDs and 52-page magazine each month. But at least it was 180$ /month for Unlimited Downloads.
Shawn, Isn't Photodisc (which is part of Getty images) pretty expensive. How much are they charging you?
ablestock.com is $900/year with their hi-res's coming in at about 28mb - not the best solution for print media, but a bargain if you are putting a ton of things up on the web. photoobjects.net is $400/year and all their photos are pre-masked to drop into any background (not really good for cityscapes, but just passing on info). Both are hemera companies - the people who sell the "Big Box of Clipart" packages. I don't use them, I just have a big box of clipart so I've been to their website. Both sites have cheaper options if you just want to subscribe for a month, but a subscription is definitely the way to go since individual pictures cost like $100+
I've been using www.sxc.hu for a few years now. Always happy. It may not be suitable for print work, but for websites you can't beat it. All photos are royalty free but if you are using for commercial work, *some* require permission or at least credit to the author.
www.photos.com charge something like $140 for a month's subscription and, as far as I can remember, you can D/L up to 250 images/day. I recommended them to a client a couple of months back who selected and used about 100 photos, so they cost less than a pound (sterling) apiece - they're ideal for web use but *do* check the small print for any limitations www.sxc.hu are good for an even tighter budget They always used to have periods when their server got hit quite heavy at peak times, so I don't know if they got that fixed *shrugs*
Last week i've had to buy some construction stock photograpy for a brochure I was designing, i've registered to www.dreamstime.com, its chep, and you can also upload your photos and earn money for them if u want to. price is 1$ 2$ and 3$ per photo depending on the downloads it has, the more popular the more money. Anyone used it before?
I only subscribed to it yesterday 'cos I couldn't find many decent freebie shots of my particular subject matter on sxc.hu But I did notice an opportunity to load photos of subjects for which they're a bit thin on the ground... dreamstime could turn out to be a very useful service What did you think of the photos you DL'd from them, jocs?
