I haven't tried hosting a wordpress blog yet, but if I were to do this - would I code it using the host's tools? and if so then why not just build a website from scratch - what are the benefits of hosting a wordpress theme?

Also, my main problem is that i paid for the upgrade to be able to edit the CSS in my theme, but every time I save the changes - they do not appear when I check the blog. When I go back to make corrections, the code that I had tweaked isn't even there.

I find wordpress ever so frustrating - any advice would be great.

When you host a wordpress site on a hosting plan you can modify anything you want with your theme.

If you installed wordpress on your own domain, you could do anything with it i.e. code/design add adsense etc ...

About coding ,you can code certain aspects of your site, but wordpress has a lot of plugins which allow you to add further features to your site if required.

About editing your code - i would suggest ensuring that your editing the correct files and then uploading them to ensure that what you have coded/designed is going live on the net.

There are many themes out there for wordpress (free and premium[cost from cheap to very expensive]).

The benefits of using wordpress are:
    1) Blogs get picked up by search engines very quickly - therefore very good for seo purposes!.
    2) Wordpress is a very popular CMS,and is very flexible, easy to use (with a bit of a learning curve - but all software or CMS's involve learning something), and has very useful plugins as well.
    3) Wordpress is Open Source is free lol

If you require any help, do ask.
    Kind Regards

If you are having problems with tweaking the theme on your WordPress.com blog, contact support and they should provide help to you (after all, you paid for the feature).

You will not have these problems with a self-hosted WordPress.org install. It is fully customizable with no limitations (other than your coding skill and imagination).

You don't have to code your own wordpress theme, just find one that you like and edit it, add plug ins, customize the header, etc to fit your needs and style.
