hi everybody, i just need some advice about keywords. i have an affiliate site related to gifts/gadgets. the categories are:

    Anniversary Gifts
    Birthday Gifts
    Chocolate
    Christmas Gifts
    Collectibles
    Decorations
    Experiences
    Flowers
    Hampers
    Novelty Gifts
    Other Occasions
    Personalised Gifts
    Valentine's Day
    Wedding Gifts

the average search terms for each of these terms are around 300.000 on google UK which is what i want to target. do you think i should target these exact terms or would it be impossible to do seems there are so many. should i try to find long tail keywords related to my categories to target? what would you do?

also should my anchor txt/keywords all be pointing to my homepage or the individual categories?

and lastly...should i have seperate meta titles/descriptions/keywords for each category or just homepage?

sorry about all my questions but im new to this game :)

i look forward to your responses

    thanks in advance

    alan

p.s my site is in my signature

You can try and go for long tail keywords about 3-5 for each of the main keywords and also should try getting some links back to each category with the main word. If it's possible that within each category to create a links page that matches the long tail keyword that is even better.

As for on site optimization, you'll need to be as specific as possible for each page of your website. So if one page can rank for a different keyword than the main page, you should try and explain to search engines just that by using meta tags, h1 tags etc

As I said, I'd try to build some subcategories or link directly to some products that will eventually match the long tail keywords and then make sure that at least the on side link structure aims the correct keywords at the right pages/categories.

    Hope this helps

Your meta tags should always be different for each page of your website or else Google may not index every page and instead just take the first page it crawls.

Secondly some of those if not most of those keywords would be hard to target for a brand new site I advise you go for the longer tailed keywords then in a time try and rank for these.
