Need some help with Math problem :/

    This is a question from my math homework that I just need justification of the answer I came up with.

    In a long line of railroad cars, the refrigeration car is the 147th from the beginning of the line and it is also 198th from the end of the line. How many railroad cars are in the line?

    Explain your answer.



    (I came up with 344)

    It is a college math class called Math for Elementary Teachers...its pretty much all these kinds of questions, like probability etc...which I HATE! Plus its summer school .. :(

    here's another one.....

    An open field separates two houses, numbered 120 and 432, which sit on the same street. A developer plans to fill the field with 12 new houses whose addresses form an arithmetic sequence between 120 and 432. The difference of this sequence must be?

    i think 26. because 432-120 would be 312 then 312 divided by 12 = 26

    i could be wrong

    The numbers would go up by 24

    432 - 120 = 312

    312 - (12 + 1) = 24

    If you divide by 12 it doesn't leave a gap before the next, existing house

    you've got to get yourself a copy of ed alive's baggin' the dragon. It's full of those nasty questions and pitched right up to university level. Your question cracked me up because my wee 7 year old boy is currently working his way through a swag of similar questions.

    it can not be 26, cause the 12th house will have house #432..sharahk is right, it is 24...i am so slow...

    suppose that at a certain time, 1 US Dollar is worth 1.46 Swiss francs, and 1 Swiss franc is worth 1.09 Dutch gliders. Find the formula which igves the number of US dollars d for Dutch gliders g.
    a. d = 1.46f
    b. d= 1.59f
    c. d= 1.59g
    d. d=1.98g

    d= 1.46f = 1.46(1.09g) = 1.59g

    Actually d should be g divided by 1.59 , but the option is not there.

    d=1.46*(1.09)=1.5914
    therefore the answer is c.

    All four options are wrong. Dollar is more valuable than glider, then how can you get 1.59 dollars for a glider?

    what are you talking about?

    d($1)=1.59g is not the same as g=1.59d
    actaully g=0.63d, hope it helps

    I am saying 1 dollar buys you 1.59 glider.

    The way it is given in the option , it seems you will get 1.59 dollars for every glider.
