Ok so I want to purchase my first domain name. I believe this process will be fairly simple. Where my problem arises is with hosting. I see many different sites offering hosting and I have web space for free with my isp and other free web space. question 1. Can I use the domain name i purchased to just forward visitors to my free website. question 2. If i decide to purchase hosting how many websites can i host on that space. ie. say i pay 60 dollars for hosting for my site and I buy 4 domain names. Can all these sites be hosted on that one hosting account? Any answers or advice you have for me is much appreciated as Im new to paying for my websites. Ps. Mods if i have posted this in the wrong forum please let me know.
Im with hostgator with 2 different domains on the same hosting account and thats like $8 a month. I assume most other paid hosts also allow more or less as many domains as you want as long as you dont go over your bandwith limit. P.S. there is no need to purchase your domain name seperately if you are going to pay for hosting as most hosting companies do this for you
If you forward your domain to a free website, your domain will be banned by googls in the future. I have one domain be banned because I forward it to a different page.
Hostgator is the best bet. I am hosting over 20 websites from my $8 a month account. I got a deal to get the first month free if you use my coupon code from my website. That will let you try out the service before having to pay anything on it. You can view the coupon code deal at: www.creatingrevenueonline.com/hot-deal-for-our-readers
Hi, CreatingRevenue, I want to register a reseller account with them. IS your coupon still useful? Thanks
The coupon is for $9.94 off your initial order. So subtract that discount from your final order price.
Hi Tummybug, I'll try and give you an answer that isn't overtly touting for business... The simple answer is that there's no simple answer to this question. How you host your domain names and sites is often a question of your own technical knowledge, budget, and 'can be bothered' factor. For example, if you spend a while on the net looking for the very best deals and you have some technical knowledge, you can end up with your domain names being 'held' by one company and your sites being hosted by someone else. However, to my mind this is a lot of effort for saving a couple of dollars a month so I tend to advise anyone who's just starting out to find a company that'll do the whole package with no mucking about. There are plenty of good people out there who offer 'all-in-one' packages that allow you to have X number of domains (this can be any number, but it's often more than most beginners will need) and will give you tools to buy them through them, and do all the pointing and technical stuff in the background. They may not be the cheapest, but they'll be by far the easiest route for a newbie. I have to say I've been very pleased with DataFlame (www.dataflame.co.uk) a UK company I've been with several years. My key plus point for them - and should be yours for any company you choose - is that their support is beyond first class. There's no point saving a dollar a month if the support from the cheaper company isn't up to scratch. I'll quite happily pay a few dollars more a month if I know that support is going to be 24/7 fast response and getting things fixed. Anyway, your best bet is to have a play with Google and investigate what's being offered by companies. Take some time, you could be with your chosen company for years and maybe depending on them to keep your site going so it's not a choice to make in a hurry. Jon
