I'm looking for some advise here, I own a company our website is www.holmesstamp.com...Im working on my Google and Yahoo placement on specific Keywords for some of the products we manufacture. I am interested in paying people who love to write. My concept is that I will give you a topic and a web page to look at for the product and ask that you write a 300-400 word article about a use for the product...I have hundreds of products and I ultimately want hundreds of articles on my site...

For example my first one would be:

    Rubber Stamps
    http://www.holmesstamp.com/category.aspx?categoryID=45

Take a look at the site and rite an article about rubber stamps...

Im trying to figure out a $$ amount I would be able to pay...but I was thinking about $3-5 per article....remember I have hundreds/thousands of articles I need....

Let me know if this would work!

    Thanks
    Bryan

You might have better luck posting this offer on the Content Creation forum.

$3-5 is definitely at the low end of the spectrum for content rates, but perhaps the end product of writers at those rates will be exactly what you are looking for.

    Thanks!

$3-$5 is a good rate for 300-400 words. I would recommend that you screen writers with a sample first, as some aren't exactly qualified.

You probably won't find anyone who will provide quality original articles for $3 to $5. I think $8 is the minimum I've seen. $10 to $15 is more realistic. Just a heads up, beware of scammers. Check out the Guide for doing smooth transactions here before you do anything.

You may want to post clear guidelines and specific examples of the type of materials that meet your quality expectations. This is one good way of getting materials that your site and your site's visitors can actually use.

    Hi,

I am willing to do it but your rates are fairly low compared to the normal rates.

$3-$5 for an article is very low. You have to understand the caliber of writing that comes at that rate to decide if it's what you're looking for.

    • Writers who write at $3-$5 per article usually rely on web research and their own limited knowledge of the topic to write the articles. More often than not, the articles are reworded versions of other web content.
    • Because the writer has to write several articles to make a living, there is not a lot of time to focus on any single article. The finished product usually is delivered without proofreading, fact-checking, or editing.
    • Often these writers have English as a second-language and are very formal in their writing or do not write grammatically correct or both.
When you are considering a writer, ask for samples of previous work and pay special attention to emails and PMs that you receive from the writer. This can give you some idea of the writer's writing ability.

You say that you have hundreds of products and you'd like to have hundreds of articles. You may not need hundreds of articles, because you don't need one 300-word article for each product. Let me explain...

The page you linked to has 5 rubber stamps under a category called "hand stamps". At most you should have two 300-word articles here, one on hand stamps and one on rubber stamps. Having an article of that length for each product is overkill. You could just save that money and use it for better copy/content for other parts of your site. (Send me a PM if you want me to help you figure out how many articles you need for your site.)

If you can decrease the number of articles you need for your site, then your budget might accomodate a higher per-article rate and better quality articles. For which, you should pay anywhere between $15-$50 for a 300-word article. It is significantly higher than the rate you were first quoted, but the return on your investment is greater.

think about how long it takes to write a 400 word article, i'd say roughly 20-30 mins, which means 2 per hour. Most copywriters want to get paid at least $15 /hour so it means you should effectiely pay $7-8 minimum, but that means you wont get very good quality copy. For decent writing you need to pay more.
