Can anyone offer some help / suggestions on how to make my site look less boring, the site is http://www.abstractartistry.co.uk/ it is an art directory. could something be done in css maybe?
One immediate thing that stands out is going with a uniform width. I run a large resolution with a large monitor. This spreads the site out across the whole browser. For someone running a resolution like mine, this puts a lot of blank area on the site. I must say, I like the logo up at the top left, I wouldn't change it, but I would maybe change the background of where your main content/links are to a light gray. Something to make it stand out from the other background area which is white. Those are really the only two suggestions I could make.
i don't know any css at all, i know html and can just about get my head around php but definatley need some help regarding css. Any ideas?
If you have a small amount of cash to spare try http://www.lynda.com it's probably the best place to learn, depends if you're a visual learner as its all videos, bit like a university lecture really. They have courses for everything and they're pretty high qaulity and well presented. give them a look
I have added some css code to make the links more suitable for the site, it works great in IE7 but not firefox, does FF not read css the same way IE does?
The width is not set correcly. Also, some graphics (top banner) could be redesigned. Try not to go deep with CSS - Firefox does not like CSS. I would go to a similar website and take a look what they look like and think of changes. Also, try to add some content. Post a clear message of what this site is all about. It is not hard to make that website look good.
To fix the blandless I would add some gradients to your top header area (very web 2.0 look) and for the content area below a background color would look best. The idea is to have as less white as possible so it doesn't look bland..
