Im using flash to create a youtube like website- with different content other than videos. I know i need to know database and all that but how would the content that users put up be the first to appear on the frontpage and top viewed and so forth- any tips on making youtube like sites are welcome thanks.
wordpress or mambo or drupal they all have widgets/plugins like top rated most viewed etc.. basically for anything you can think of it's probably there

Some linux experience That's not enough and i think try some cms as like as mambo, joomla or drupal that not help you with longtime. You could definitely do this using WordPress. Take a look at Revolution TV theme. If you'd like some help doing this, I'm taking 10 people through my course for free to build their site using WordPress in exchange for testimonials. Apply here. However, please understand that we'll be working within the WordPress structure, so getting some of the functions of YouTube may not be possible. For instance, one of the biggest challenges will be getting screenshots of the video to be automatically taken and made into a thumbnail. For this, you'll need to have a dedicated server and run something like FFmpeg, which is something that would be beyond the scope of my course. However, in my course, I could teach you how to manually take screen shots of videos, upload them to your server, and publish them to your site so they show up on the front page, like you see on the Revolution TV theme. If you do apply, please be as specific as you can with the functions you want so I can help be realistic about what you can expect. Good luck.
