Ok, here is the deal. Right now I am getting charged an arm and a leg for hosting. I am in the middle of redesigning my vbulletin forum and upgrading it. Anyway, I would like to move to a different host. Is this a pain in the butt? Or is it no big deal. I will be moving the complete site with members and posts? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
It mainly depends on how big your forum is but generally its a easy process you will have some site shut down time though just because of the domains resolving. Other then that its very simple
Keep you existing hosting and lock the forums, move all the files and DB to another hosting account and change the nameservers once moved. That way you won't have downtime and it's usually less than 24 hours for them to propagate.
ok step one is you want to shut down your sites for example if you just have a forum go to admin panel and shut it down leave a messege saying you are down for maintance or whatever you want. Step 2 make a full back either in your "cpanel" or "directadmin" account. This is done very easily if you dont know how contact your host as it is a very important thing to learn. Next download the back up and upload to your new server. You must upload it to the back up folder. Furthermore go to your new hosting account in your control panel and use the restore back up feature. Then change your name servers from for your domains to your new host. Last this may seem complicated but its not to bad once you do it once. If you find this helpful leave me rep =) haha
I did find this useful, but!!!! What about the database? Would you need to do this for the database also? Thanks!
Awesome, as soon as the website is good to go design wise, i'll be moving to less expensive hosting, thanks a bunch!
