I know my way around the cPanel interference This one: However, I just purchased a new VPS and cPanel looks a little different & I have no idea my way around it: I contacted my hosting provider and they tell me that it is the same thing just with admin options as well that I would not normally have on a shared hosting package. But with that said, I mean I still see a lot of options are missing, like my file manager button, etc. etc... Would someone be willing to help me out what do I need to do in order to get the screen (1st picture) that I am familiar with? Thanks for all the help in advance!
The second image is a WHM. The first image is your cPanel. What link are you going to in the second image? Is it something like http://yourdomain.com/whm, or http://yourdomain.com:2086 or https://yourdomain.com:2087? These all refer to the WHM. The WHM is where you create new hosting accounts, if you are a reseller or server administrator. You want to go to: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel or http://yourdomain.com:2082 or https://yourdomain.com:2083 using HTTPS is recommended, although you may need to use a special hostname instead of yourdomain.com. If none of this makes sense to you, contact your host and tell them you want the link to your cPanel, not a WHM link.
hmm, since I am not getting much help from them, would the step to follow here be to create a hosting account for myself under WHM?
Yes this is exactly what you need to do. Go to Packages and create a new package. Then go to Account functions and create a new account.
"DNS SETTINGS" What should I put in there? Basically i am used to updating my nameservers with godaddy (my domain registrar) and thats it, anything i need to do here? i have two options: -Use the nameservers specified at the Domain's Registrar (ignore locally specified nameservers) -Overwrite any existing DNS zones for the account Nameservers: ns1.privatelayer.ch ns2.privatelayer.ch Thanks again
I would just ignore the DNS question. When you Create the account, the next screen will show you the output of the account being created. One of the first things it will list is a kind of box that lists your domain name, your username, your password, your IP, and it will also list your Nameservers (NameServer1, NameServer2). These would be the nameservers that you would use at the registrar where you registered that domain name at. Copy those nameservers to your registrar account for the domain name, and then your domain name will start resolving to your server, your account.
Select the option "Use the nameservers specified at the Domain's Registrar" while creating the account. Once the account is created, you can then login to cPanel (end user control panel to manage individual domain) of the domain using either of the following URLs: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel or http://yourdomain.com:2082 or https://yourdomain.com:2083 with the username and password you have to specify while adding the domain. The same access details are used to Ftp to the domain.
hi all i need some help hare..I have domain which has 1 yr domain age...I wanna chang it's hosting. So what is the procedure. I purchased this domain from namecheap? should I change the name server or anything else should I do?
Once you purchase a hosting package with a new company ask them their name servers and yes, change the name servers of the domain with namecheap. That is it. I am assuming you will be purchasing a Shared hosting account.
Create a full backup of your account from the control panel and place the backup under the public_html directory. You can then ask BlueHost to download it directly using wget and restore it on their server. The most easiest way to transfer with no shell access.
I have also one question here....If I owned new domain.....should I change the DNS server name for hosting. and put the hosting provider DNS server name.
Yes, if you purchase a new domain, host the new domain under the account with Bluehost and use their name servers.
