Need some concrete help with domain SEO

I need some advice and suggestions on how to leverage the two key domains I have. Here is the situation -

    • The keyphrase I am targeting is made up of 3 words (word1 word2 word3).
    • I have two domains word1word2word3.com and word1word3.com
    • As of now I have developed the first one (w1w2w3.com) and second is sitting idle.
    • Site w1w2w3.com ranks #1 for phrase w1 w2 w3 - thats no problem. I have done all SEO keeping in mind that so its working well.
    • In my stats I see that lot of people are also searching for "w1 w2", and my site (w1w2w3.com) is listed at #5 for it.
    • Could I use w1w2.com in such a way that I can pick #1 spot for search term "w1 w2". What would be good use of second domain (like develop another site for that perticular keyphrase or just do domain redirect).
I know its long description, but if someone could suggest I will really appreciate it.

First of all, Your site did NOT gain ranks since it has the keywords in your domain. Domain name makes no difference.

To target that phrase, do the normal SEO work that can be done. LIke, add landing pages, gain links, etc.

    Good luck

If you already have ranking for w1 w2 w3. Than it should just be a matter of time and work before you can achieve rankings for w1 w2.

So my answer is, don't bother with second domain. It would just would add to the amount of work you need to do. I would focus on the first domain that has already got some momentum and continue working on it.

You could maybe use the second domain for some links to the first, but other than that i wouldnt bother with the second one.
