I just purchased a HP Pavilion tx2510us. Ever since I have gotten it I have had loads of errors and problems. First off whenever I try to run the webcam it will freeze up the application that is using this. Which is usually msn messenger. Then when I go to end task to close the program it will NEVER close the program. That happens for most errors by teh way not just windows messenger. My computer will not restart or log off my user account properly. I called up HP and they told me to restore the computer to factory settings. I did that and still have the same problems. It is not because the computer is overheating. It is kept cool and on a hard surface like its supposed to be. I took it back to Office Depot and they found nothing wrong with it (minus their suggestion to upgrade to Vista SP2...which does not exist). I have 3 GB of Ram. Dual core processors. No spyware or anything. And the hard drive is fine. Help would be great!
Go back to Office Depot and demand help and show them the problem. They probably didn't even check (unless you were standing right in front of them). Seriously... if you're still within your 14-day purchase period, raise hell and make sure you're satisfied. Tell them that HP TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK since it's still within the 14 purchase period and YOU guys need to solve this! If you're having problems with it, why not just exchange it? I just bought a bad-a$$ Toshiba yesterday... hoping to mess around with it today.
I stood right behind them as they did the check. They keep telling me to go back to HP. But hp is of no help and after a 30 minute being on hold session earlier today I hung up on them. I have an extended warranty as well for up to 3 years so I am hoping that they could ship me a new one.
Trust me... if you're within the return/exchange period, HP will just tell you to go exchange it. Well... that was my experience 2 years ago. I wouldn't want to send in a brand new laptop for repair... . Get OD to exchange it with another in stock. If this OD isn't doing anything, take it to another store and talk to the manager. I've bought tons of laptops at Office Depot and I've had problems with (3). One Toshiba I bought 2 years ago had issues right when I got home... took it back and they gave me a $50 gift card for my troubles and exchanged it.
When you bring a pc back, in the back of the store's mind they will be thinkning "this guy has just got virus infections or he doesnt know how to use the applications properly so its nothing to do with us". Baconbits, I know this is not he case. You sound tech savy. But you will have to work a bit harder to overcome this attitude. I would keep a log of what specifically goes wrong and when. If I had the machine, I would check three hardware things (RAM, hard drive and motherboard). The Ultimate Boot CD is a free download and it has tools to test RAM (memtest 86) and your hard drive (different tool depending on the drive manufacturer). There are some programs which will test motherboard hardware like Ultra-X, Pc-Doctor Service Center or Eurosoft's diagnostic. The RAM test should take a few hours, the hard drive test should take about 45-60 mintues and the motherboard tests should take 20 minutes. Another line of enqury is better motherboard drivers/patches from the HP support section on thier website. There could be some bigish update which will improve things. I hope you get it sorted out soon.
I called up hp again and they kept going on ahow having a worm or virus. I do not understand how I could get one of those on my very first bootup lol. So they wanted to send me a recovery disk but that wuld take a month since they were out of stock In the end I am supposed to go to office depot and get a replacement.
Let us know how it goes with OD. I personally have a record with all the OD's around me and complaining... seriously. LOL. When something goes wrong and they don't do anything about I get furious... especially with their retarded return policy. The only way to get anything through to them is by letting them know you're the customer and they're wrong. Hell, with all the crap you're going through I would call corporate and ask them to compensate you!
If your new laptop doesn't work right, I would do what a few other comments recommend. Go back to the store and explain to them everything, keep logs of what all is going wrong, show them that you aren't retarded(since they thing everyone but themselves are), and if being calm doesn't work, get mad, raise your voice, and speak with a manager. Best of Luck
