Hi I would also like some help if at all possible re; adwords?

I work for a firm of Solicitors in Ormskirk and we're currently looking into all aspects of marketing our firm.

I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of using an SEO firm to manage an Adwords campaign or alternatively will try and manage it myself. Would probably only have a small budget of say £100 a month to start with.

What I want to know is just how easy is it to manage something like that yourself??

Any advice would be much appreciated??

    Cheers

    Sean

SEO firms, if that's all they do, I would not hire them for a PPC campaign. I'd hire a PPC specialist. SEO people just don't have the marketing knowledge needed for PPC in most cases. SEO and PPC are different. If you manage it yourself, be prepared for a learning curve. It may be best to let a pro set it up for you and even manage it.

here's some benefits of AdWords for you: http://www.ppcguy.net/adwords-benefits

The negatives are that you're going to spend money, and if the money isn't spent well you're gonna lose it. So the ads and landing pages need to be tracked, tested and tweaked so they convert. If you don't get it right, you'll be wasting money.

*waves to lucid* it is you from over the other forum?

well, it depends on your industry.. If you are selling only a few products locally, then you can do it yourself. If you want to target different countries/regions with multiple products then it gets a little bit complicated.

£100 a month is a very small budget. You can probably play around with it. Read about adwords first as you can burn up your money in no time.

if you want to manage the account yourself, the best advice is to read the forums like this one and take advantage of free courses on the Adwords site and from some of the industry experts

I think some clarification is needed here:

SEO - Search Engine Optimisation - This involves actually working on your website to optimise it for the Search Engines, optimising the code, adding optimised content and building quality links to your site from other peoples sites (a very broad overview)

PPC - Pay Per Click - As the name suggestes you pay the provider for every click. For example Google AdWords.

When you search Google for something, you get 3 sets of results. On the right hand side are Sponsored Links (which fall under PPC), at the top, normally in a coloured box, are also Sponsored Links (which also fall under PPC) and lastly, under this box are the 'Natural Results' (these are the results that you optimise you site for to appear in - SEO)

As someone here has already said, the two things are completely different and have their own skill sets. Depending on the size of the remit, i would advise you let a company that specialises in each individual area manage this as both PPC and SEO are easy ways to throw away money unless you know what you are doing.

£100 for SEO is tiny. You must remember, if you are paying someone £100 per month, what can you honestly expect. This is a skill like any other. A plumber would cost you £50 per hour at least!

Just remember this before paying someone £100 to do something for you, as in many instances they will take the money and do nothing. It may be better to read about SEO and try use the budget yourself as it will go further.

Sorry to sound pescimistic but this is sound advice.

    Binho, nice compact overview.
Let me correct something there... there are more than 3 sets of results! There are product search results, local business results, news search results, etc.
As a law firm, you are interested in the local business search results.
Just google: 'local business listing' to find out more.

Try researching your keywords using Google External Keywords Tool (adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal)
And try the best to find your most effective keywords.
    It helped me a lot.
