Im having some trouble getting traffic for my site. http://www.baby-skim.com The thing is unlike other niches I can't just go to forums and promote (blogs yes) cause the main baby related forums have a no link policy. So posting and having a link in my sig is out (unless someone here knows a place you can do that). My site covers a lot of ground and each of the ground it covers is a very hard market to get into. I don't have any money to put into advertising on google (or anywhere else really). Pretty much post on blogs and get some articles written are all I can think of so far.....Like I said most of the family sites are very guarded in who they link too and very expensive if I was to pay. Places like Digg and other sites like it don't seem to cater to my audience....Right now im getting about 30-50 people a day with just being in Google and using swicki. Any suggestions? Im looking for an idea maybe I missed?
If you keep searching you're bound to find some major forums which DO allow signature links. You can't just say "oh the main ones don't allow it" because at this point, forum advertising looks to be your best bet. Advertising to 100 people instead of 1000 people may not be as appealing, but it's still better than advertising to zero.
I have seen baby/family forums that allow links. Getting indexed high on search engines is great. A lot of first time parents get on the internet and search up information.
I have posted on a few minor forums but they aren't getting traffic so neither am I....Im just looking for suggestions other than the obvious; Forum sigs, blog posting ect ect.
Chrono, don't take this the wrong way, but Before wasting your energy getting people to the site, work at improving the site first. Honestly, it's just not visually appealing, link farms have more graphical appeal. I wasn't willing to venture past the first page, but it looked like mountains and mountains of text links. Not many people will be more willing than I was to investigate further. I recommend creating some graphical category boxes explaining the benefit of your site and why I should care. It would be a shame to start marketing it now, because you only get 1 shot at a first impression. And if they come the first time and leave as quick as I did, they won't come back a second time. Good luck with your venture, and don't take this too hard. You probably have some great content in there, so your job is to market it, and eliminate the clutter on your home page.
