Need site to determine host operating system from IP

I'm trying to find a site where I can up in an ip address or domain name and it will tell me the operating system etc that the sites host is using.

 

I Seriously doubt thats possible atleast legally

 

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I'm just trying to find out what type of server a site is hosted on (ie Linux, Windows).

I've seen sites that goes as far as showing which version of server, iis version (if windows), etc. Now that I need one, I can't seem to locate one again.

 

You won't be able to know what exactly the site is on by jsut look at the IP as it will show the TTL of the router not the server, however if your on the same network or lan, you could tell if its a solaris, linux, windows, or other os just by looking at the ttl when you ping it.

 

I am not sure about IP, but you can check that through the domain at domaintools.com.
