    Hello

i just need a little suggestion... from you guys, i m running a forum, and i m getting 80% of my traffic from Google Search... my forum in located on my main directory (i.e www.myforum.com ) but now i want to move my forum to sub directory (i.e www.myforum.com/forum), and have a index page, that contains all the forum links....but i m worring about loosing all the links from Google....

because after moving my forum to my sub directory all the generated links in Google will be dead... which means no more traffic from Google... so would Google recognize my new link by it self ? does my site map help me ?

and if Google will recognize my new link, how long would it take ?

i hope you guys understand my point, and will help me out soon..

    Thanks

You'll need to delete the URL from google webmaster tools and then resubmit the site map, and eventually it will show up again.

Use 301 redirect in the .htaccess. This way google will find your new URLs quickly and you will not loose backlings pointing to the internal pages (threads).

    1. Make new site map and submit it to google webmasters tools.
    2. On all old pages make redirection to new pages (You can simple place link informing that e.g. "Page was moved to new sites please click here").
    3. Google will index Your news sites in 2-3 month.

Yeah. I recommend the 301 too. Keep the main site redirecting for a while.
After that you can build your site.

make 404 page not found redirect to your new forum directory and if your visitors came fom google then they will redirect to new forum toot when they found 404 error.

As above 301 is the best to go - I would be careful using a 404 option- and an every easyier way to go would be put up a simple page where real people can then click to the forum.

Then you would lose your links at all and it would be an instant fix

I dont know if your future plans allow this......

if you redirect your 301 page with in 5 sec, then google ban you...
and if you wait to redirects more then 10 seconds, then your visitors dislike this delay.

decision is in your hands, but i suggest you again to 404/page not found option.
    goodluck
