My Business Networking site has dynamic pages with the "?" and some other funny looking URLs. Can someone tell me what is the easiest way to change dynamic pages so I will have SEO friendly URLs? What's the process and how long should it take to do it? Thanks in advance for your help.
Ryandoubleyou, Yes, it's apache. The URLs look like this: http://www.schmoozii.com/Publish/User/joinNow.php?mode=account http://www.schmoozii.com/Publish/User/Blogs/blog_main.php?mode=comment&blogId=28
You can always use a .htaccess file to completely change your file structure. For instance you can turn: www.mysite.com/download/ Code (markup): Into this: www.mysite.com/index.php?do=download Code (markup): That way on the back-end your still using variables like that but on the front-end the user/bot doesn't seen any of that.
Sorry for the delayed answer. I wasn't receiving instant notifications and didn't realize I got a response. Ryandoubleyou, I want the URLs to look like this: current: www.schmoozii.com/Publish/User/Blogs/blog_main.php?mode=main new: www.schmoozii.com/AuthorsName/BlogPostTitle AliasXNeo, If I change like that, is it a difficult process? Will it then be SEO friendly? Will it change the dynamic URLs so when we create a new blog post, the URL will be created with it?
I have the same problems as this guy, i have dynamic urls, i want seo friendly urls also, im willing to pay somebody to change the urls, if its reasonable cost, please pm me if your interested.
solution 1) either use codeignitor framework.. it's very easy to learn and implement... 2) use .htaccess to redirect.... example :- what should be in ur .htaccess file :- Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^discussions/(.*)/pages/(.*)$ /softwares/discussion.php?file_name=$1&page=$2 [L] this is code for my site.. now what happens , whenever anyone types www.mysite.com/discussions/mobile/pages/2 then it redirects it silently to www.mysite.com/discussion.php?file_name=mobile&page=2 ... still in address bar of browser you see www.mysite.com/discussions/mobile/pages/2..... hope this helps... let me know if you want me to explain it further...
hey, Codeignitor is really not complicated to install.. you can go to www.codeignitor.com and download the script.. they have video tutorial as well.... and if you have whole website made , then looks like it will difficult for you to change all URLs.... so better i suggest you that you should go for point no 2).... you can use .htaccess file for redirect.. look at the example which i have given... this is from my own site... let me know if i can help you further.... you can also email me at my email address ... thanks , Chandan
