I'm looking for opinions on this.. While I understand the advantages of being able to serve up ads to visitors to your website about your product as they browse the web, I have serious issues with this practice. The company OwnerIQ is proposing that we: • Install their script in our website, in return they will o Collect the data on our website visitors via a cookie o Then pay for advertising in Yahoo or Google to serve up ads on our products that they create & pay for o They then sell the information collected from our website to email list companies or anybody interested in purchasing the aggregated data. Here is where I have the problem in regards to OwnerIQ: • They are adding their script on our website. For numerous reasons, I am against having third party cookies added, even Google Analytics, but at least I have access to the data on Google Analytics data. • A pop-up will be generated that will force our visitors to accept or decline. Bad! • This company is then selling the information gathered on our website for their profit. The information will be added to mailing lists, etc… • They say they will purchase paid advertising in Google and Yahoo to serve up ads that showcase our products. How do we know how much they are willing to spend CPC? They could spend $.01/click for all we know and be listed on page 476 with that ad. Am I alone in this? I really would like to here other expert opinions please L40
