Hey guys, Just wanna get some ideas and opinions on what type of websites are the best to be flipped and can we flip websites where the domains were bought within few weeks. Other than that, how does the flipping process occurs... Hope to hear some good opinions from the experts... Thanks and Regards
I got a really good lesson on selling a blog today. SEDO has a FREE site appraisal site that will give you an idea on how much your site is worth in US Dollars. I submitted my site for an estimate on value. What a surprise. My site has a PR3 and about 28,000 back links and it is about 4 years old. and, it made some income over the past year or so. Also, I have taken care and made sure that the articles I posted fit the SEO guide lines, quality, uniqueness, and keyword density. I've put a lot of work in this site. The FREE site appraiser service came back with a value of $8,000 to $12,000 USD. Took my breath away then and there! What a thrill. I set about making plans on selling it on SEDO. I had the idea of selling it as "Buy It Now" for $10,500 USD. The 1st think I thought I had better do was get an 'Official' website appraisal from a qualified site appraisal service. Sounds reasonable. I ordered an appraisal with SEDO's Appraisal service; $49 USD, (their premium service). Can't go wrong there. Right? NOT!! They came back with a bit under 10% of what their FREE service offered. It may just be a case of sour grapes but I think I just got ripped off for $49.00 My point here is to not get to excited about any of the FREE site appraisal service you find with a Google search. I tried 3 different services and the values ranged from $2700 to $12,000. So, happy blogging. It can only get better. RT...
If you are flipping sites, don't start with a new domain as it will face issues in growth, you're better off buying an established site with some traffic and weak SEO - then you can take it over and correct all the issues, start getting better traffic to it, hold it for a few months and work on the earnings - that's what people care about - the money that it makes or could potentially make and the traffic.... I had the same idea - but now I am to attached to my site... then there's the issue of growing traffic... when's the right time to sell? My site has been on the increase from 1k uniques per day (when I purchased it), then 3k uniques per day, to 6k uniques per day and now in the third month of my ownership it's up to 10k-15k uniques per day... and if it keeps growing like this - I don't think I want to part with it LoL. As for the niche? well - do something that you enjoy... as you will have more knowledge and actually enjoy it... you don't want to have to research or google every topic or post that you make and be filled with errors and wrong information.
I'm not really sure about the concept of flipping websites. The only time I would ever do it is if like the previous poster said, the website had been around for a while and you really thought that you could do something with it. "flipping" came from the term in real estate. And generally, in real estate, they are going with older homes with glaring issues that once cleaned up is going to be profitable. While most websites for sale have this staple (most poeple don't buy their best sites) a lot of people are doing it all wrong and buying a website that cost $30 to setup for $200 (way over priced) then expect to hold onto it and do something amazing with it. That's not flipping, that's just a bad investment. Ideally, most websites for sale are not going to meet the criteria to flip in my book. I would rather start from scratch, build my own website from the ground up. Might take slightly longer (not too much longer if you hire out) and end up with something that is really profitable.
Flipping sites for an extra stream of income is highly over rated. This is my own opinion of course but the only real money makers in the flipping business are the 'auction' houses and the 'Site flipping' course sellers. There is an obscure domain rule that says you must keep your site for at least 60 days before you can transfer it to a new owner. I've never seen that mentioned in any of the 'Site Flipping" courses. I don't flip but when I saw it was "Worth" more than $10K my "Going To Get Rich Quick" blood started racing. I'm not married to any of my sites and selling one of them for the right price is not a problem. It doesn't take long to build a WP blog and it takes even less time to fill it up with unique content and getting it indexed is even faster. But even so, I think it's an exercise in futility to try and make an internet fortune by flipping the site. What I didn't know, until yesterday, was that the FREE site appraisals are come-on's of the unsuspecting noobs on the net. (never mind that I've been at this for more than a few years.) Live and learn I guess. RT...
Seriously, you can reg a brand new domain and have one of the free domain appraisals value it around $100 regardless of what the domain is.
Yes of course you can get a new site appraised at $100. All I'm saying is that (IMO) the free appraisals mean nothing. I know it's a crap shoot out there when it comes to the net. Three different FREE appraisal sites came back with values for my site ranging from $2000 to the high of $12,000. I do think the paid appraisals are pretty close to the actual value. What SEDO didn't take into consideration is whether my site had any income streams. But then, the actual value is what ever the market will bear and whatever you can get for your site. RT...
SEDO appraisals are pretty much a crap shoot as well if they don't even take into consideration the profit a site makes. The thing is sedo is always going to give you a "Happy" number of what your site is worth because they are a selling and buying domain/website place, so they are making you think "I should sell". While sedo will appraise like crazy, the ultimate question is, do sites sell for what they say they are worth. I'm thinking no. Its fairly easy to determine a website value yourself since you know the design, effort, profit, traffic, etc anyway.
