....first of all, affiliate marketing is the best to start with important .. do your market research FIRST before you pick a product do your keyword search.. look for the searches study the competition and who it is ( if there is a lot, there's money in it) pick a product and learn the traffic-getting thing ...just a couple of suggestions
Save your money. Do you seriously think people are going to share good business ideas? Save you money, and over time you will work what you enjoy and what will make money, by then you'll also be probably ready to go into business with a set of skills.
Rather than developing your own website you might want to consider purchasing a website that is up and running and already producing some cash flow. Even purchasing an existing domain name that has some basic traffic could save some time rather than just trying to find a domain that has not already been taken.
Put the money in the bank and spend as little as you can setting up your site - the easiest way to go would be to set up a niche site that is keyword focused...this is cheap top set up but a lot of work...whatever you do dont waste your money getting someone to set up a fancy site for you - its a waste of money as you can do this yourself - you dont need anything super fancy to make money, but just be prepared for it to take time. Use wordpress, buy a good theme, or go with SPI - they give you step by step instructions of what to do. Good luck!
I agree with the others who suggest you bank the 4 grand as if you actually spend 2 grand on a website you're seriously getting ripped off or going about it the wrong way. You can easily create a site, get hosting, develop a business idea and all that for probably less than $100 - if you go about it with smart resources. It's not difficult to build a website with all the sources out there online that show you how. Wordpress.org is absolutely free. A domain and hosting is under $30 or less depending on where you go. I urge you to seriously reconsider spending that kind of money on something you can do next to totally free and of high quality. But if you just insist on spending 2K, send it to me and I'll build you a masterpiece in about a week ;-) The site doesn't have to necessarily be the source of your income - but a promotional piece for whatever business you choose. That doesn't mean you can't incorporate certain measures that monetize the site itself. What interests you? What are you most passionate about? Gaming? Sports? Gadgets? The Singularity? Marketing? Photography? Sex? (huge industry there, on every level). If you're passionate about it, so are a zillion other people. Do you want to sell items? Make and sell items? Teach something? Make training videos or instructionals? Are you good at building stuff or craftwork? Without knowing you or anything about you it's next to impossible for anyone to give you ideas because they may ring hollow if you don't enjoy it already. So try this way: What kind of monetization can you use for your idea? Membership sites are popular. Try starting a group local/offline and brand out the product or service across the country for membership fees. Writing articles, books, manuals, etc. can be easily converted for ebook readers and sold through channels like Google Books and Amazon, as well as directly off a site. Training Videos - teach a course, how-to videos and set up a video site with paid options and free options. Marketing - find a product someone else made and help promote it for commisions. Build apps - if you have any programming skills or know someone who does, consider building an phone app and get it on the marketplace. Now with the ipad and the midrange computers, build apps for this new market that's hungry for apps - forget who that guy was who built an app that basically uses GPS to locate your vehicle in a parking lot and he raked in over a hundred grand in a few months. The makers of Angry Birds, that ridiculously neurotic and addictive game net those guys over a million bucks in less than a year. Apps are a good investment if you can come up with something that's useful. There are options to hire developers to build it for you and work with a cut. Consider paying one to build something for you. Lots of avenues but your ideas need to be aligned with something you'll enjoy - that isn't work, that isn't a job, something that inspires you...then finding ways to monetize it will come much easier. Otherwise, just put money toward tuition, go to school, earn a degree and go to work on the 9-5...become a doctor...lawyer...fireman. Good luck!
Your decision is good, my advise is do affiliate marketing that will allows you to make good money! All the best
