Need of advice

    Hi everybody,

I'd like to give you guys a little background on my situation before I ask my question(s). :)

    Background

I recently started a new website about radio controlled vehicles about one week ago. I started the site due to a rc related video I uploaded on Youtube a while back that receives 3500-4000 clicks per day and has over 1 million cumulative views.

I started the site solely for the purpose of profit. The domain used to host a url compression site (similar to Tinyurl) and received quite a bit of traffic before.

Due to spamming issues, sadly my url compressing service had to be shut down- leaving just a static page in place with no service. It was like that for about 6 months.

About 1 week ago I decided to bring down that static page and utilize the traffic I got off that one video on Youtube. I created and published the site 6 days ago, applied for an Adsense account, and got myself up and running.

    Question

Being new to Adsense and internet marketing in general, I'd like a few tips on ad placement and maybe a few helpful tools to aid me through the learning curve. I've done a lot of reading on the subject(s) and nothing really seemed to hit home. I'm not really the type of person that likes to be spoon fed, I just want a few helpful tips.

I think it may be worth noting that the first few days I started I received quite a bit of clicks but not that much pay. From the time I started till now (6 days) I've received ~1300 impressions and 31 clicks, making only $1.37. I think it's pretty low.

Any advice on my website layout and ad placement would be great!

Here's my site address(can't post links yet  ):

Look forward to reading your replies. :)

    Thanks in advance,

    -AJ

In terms of layout, my best advise would be to place a nice vertical banner on the left side of the page. For colour, maybe a green or sky blue :D. But the layout should fill the left a bit and make sure it looks nice trying not to spoil your layout.

$1.37 is very low, your right. Try expanding your keywords a bit and get some more variety of ads there, doesn't have to be exactly on topic, maybe parts for racing cars, world record books of racing, racer biographies, maybe go as far as remote control cars? I know remote control cars used to be massive 3 years ago and has died down again, so I presume it is on the rise again and most haven't caught on yet, but that would need more research.

Hope that helped, but Im not really an Adsense specialist for PPC.

i checked out your site and as of right now i would say put another large vertical banner somewhere on the side that you dont have to scroll down to see

    Thanks for the tips guys.

When you say keywords, do you mean meta tags?

I think I'm going to put up some text banner ads (468x15) that blend in with the background color so it looks like they are internal site links. I think that'll generate some more money because they won't stand out as much.

The site looks great, you can add ads in the top or the middle of the posts and leave the layout you use.Try direct sales to make more bucks from the site.

    Thanks! :)

Well, I'm starting to see a difference in how much I get payed per click and how much traffic I get. It's been a week so far and I think the results have been pretty good (at least in terms of traffic). Instead of the one or two cents I used to get per click before, now I'm getting 6-15 cents per click.

The one thing I have noticed though is the fact that my page impressions have gone down and my CTR has went above 5%. I don't know if that's a good thing or not. I mean sure, a high CTR rate is great, but if I'm getting a small fraction of clicks compared to what I used to before, it really isn't relevant.

I get the same amount of traffic as I used to, if not more, before the new format, but I get less clicks.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks in advance,

    -AJ

Have you tried placing ads within the blog posts, below and beside the videos.
Having an ad just below the "PLAY" button should help improve CTR.

Thanks for the tip. I think that's an excellent idea and I've implemented it on my videos page and my home page. I'll see how it goes. :)
