Need new RELIABLE, CHEAP host for my website...

My website of 8 years seems near to dead, after the host I have been with all that time suddenly dissappeared early January. I am in the process of having the registrar unlock my domain, and supply me with my EPP transfer code, and I have retrieved an old backup of my site, from late 2007. Now I need a new host. A host unlikely to DIE very suddenly and without warning. With decent customer service and solid uptime.

My site consists of a basic front end mainly in html, and a connected phpbb forum and mysql databases. Traffic wise, at its peak last year, when everything was fine and dandy, it was receiving 500000-1million hits per month, with around 10000 unique visitors.

I will need help restoring the site...I can upload the backup, but will require guidance or full on assistance, if restoring the site is a tricky affair. But perhaps it is more simple than I assume...

    my backup files are:
    a .tar file of 111mb
    a .sql file of 62mb

Its going to take time to retrieve the traffic and lost members of the last two years, so I don't envisage the traffic stats been close to what i mentioned above, at least for a fair few months.

The site was on a shared network for 6 years, and a clustered network for 2 years. no problems with speed. And I was paying $AU 160 per year.

Can anyone make some suggestions please?

As far as I understand you are looking for the web hosting solution in Australia.
In this case I would recommend you do some search on the webhostingtalk.com.au
    Good luck

It isn't important whether the new host is australian, american, english...I am more concerned with reliability and service and cost.

Why on earth are people with such low post counts even allowed to post here?

    Paradox, try reading the rules!

I'd advise you to keep your host and domain registrar separate. If you want to transfer your domain, do it to godaddy or namecheap and just point to the host's nameservers when ready. No need to host it on the same company and you'd be much better off as you wouldn't have to worry about both of your assets being affected at the same time if anything happens.

I have found a new host...ENOM have supplied me with the EPP and unlocked my domain. But i wish to take the advice of njoker. As in keeping the domain and hosting separate.

Now...As ENOM supplied me with these details, do I assume I am registered with them until the expiry of my domain??? July this year i THINK...Or do I need to transfer my domain to a new registrar??? i was looking at godaddy.com...would they be ok. at least safe?

You are registered with them until you transfer out of ENOM. When you transfer, you will be required to pay a transfer fee to the new registrar and they will extend your domain for another year. You can transfer before your domain expire. Godaddy.com is fine, but I vote towards namecheap.com as I used them personally and service is very good.

You can move out any time - when you transfer the new registrar will just add on another year to the expiration date.

And Godaddy is great. I have like 50-60 domains with them.

It's good practice to not have your domain and hosting account with the same provider. With the EPP code you can easily transfer the domain to any registrar you want. Godaddy or Namecheap, take anyone you want. I would recomend transferring out of ENOM, they are more for large domain portfolios, tend to have high prices for just a single domain or so. Godaddy, Namecheap or even Moniker are all good, add .com to either name and see their webpage. It is against ICANN rules (the registry handling domain names) to force you to lock in your domain name.

Once you have choosen a registrar to hold your domain for you. Then you can point the domain to any host you select. You just change the nameservers inside the domain management section, give it a few hours to propagate, and then your site is live. Easy enough.

namecheap is having a special transfer your domain deal this month.
SWITCH2NC coupon code for $6.99 domain name transfers when you move your domains to Namecheap.

well Godaddy is good for domian registration and you said ur domain now with Enom and your domain expire on july. well to transfer a domain its preferred to transfer one month before domain expiration and i think $7 u get transferred to godaddy with one year one extension. Well to my opinion godaddy is very good service for domain and i have 75 domain with them.

As far as hosting look one of this

    Hostgator
    hostmonster
    Hostupon
    ixwebhosting
    dot5

All are Top hosting and charges $4 to $5 per month if you choose 1 year + hosting plan with them.
