I think the most important thing with the keywords is finding the niche in your target keywords which other businesses may not be targeting. Check out what the competition is doing abit and keyword search numbers and select the right target words for the most traffic possible. From experience first page or nothing for traffic and the top 2 or 3 results do get alot more traffic than lower results on the first page. So at times targeting a lower searched for keyword, if you can get result one may be better.
