http://www.anime-characters.com This website is more than 3 years old, its PR1, has minimal participation with half of its features with 0 usage such as topics and reviews, gets some 10k visitors a month which generate some 100k pageviews (According to Awestats). Its listed as first entry in yahoo and on page 1 of google for keyphrase "Anime characters" Tried adsense ads but it never got paid, tried CPM, even worst. Basically there's not enough traffic. What kind of marketing you think could work for it? This is a database, maybe databases aren't meant to be popular? The hosting and domain of this thing is $50, I simply can't keep wasting money on something dead. If nothing changes this is the last year of activity.

social media is the affordable one and so effective. you can create a facebook fanpage, twitter, and also upload video in youtube.
Have you conducted market research? You need to find out who your target audience is and cater to their needs? Anime is popular in children up to late twenties. What anime series are currently showing and what anime merchandise are selling? Maybe you can do a feature on these "hot" anime series and promote the merchandise for a commission, but first, you need to find out the people who visits your site or likely to visit your site and purchase.
