depending on the optimization you may need a Dedicated server with a good amount of RAM. The only thing that's not at a Dedicated level is the disk* usage. What kind of a budget are you working with?

I would either recommend a Magnum for you dick space as for your disk space & bandwidth. You may want to go ahead and go for a good VPS or you may want to get your own dedicated.

You might just need a VPS. What's your budget for hosting right now?

I would recommend a decent VPS, you'll be kicked off a lot of resellers for over usage but you have no need for a dedi yet (unless you anticipate significant growth in the near future?)

I would suggest a VPS server with DirectAdmin control panel ( which is light and speedy ),
A decent VPS will have 1GB of dedicated ram. ( not shared )

when you say you got 7GB of disk space in use, would be nice to know what is the size of your database.
if the database size is under lets say 100Mb, you would fit on a shared hosting plan with no problem.

keep in mind, for 7Gb of space your site takes, if you are rooting for a VPS , do this simple calculation.

10gb for the Linux system + control panel + room for logs

at least 10gb for your website ( you are going to grow right? )
and at least 10gb of space to keep your forums backups tar.gz files.
( meaning you will have one backup - usually consider daily )

30GB of space would be the MINIMUM for such setup.

anything above 30gb with at least 1gb of dedicated ram - is a decent VPS for you.

good luck, hope this helps a bit - never forget backups!

wow. thanks for the info. I really like direct admin, its simple and has easy navigation than cpanel. I'll take note of this when I buy a VPS!
