I think that is just what the page is using because I am using no CMS so mine says: "text/html".

 

Use for reference purposes (name of the program which created the web document).
Doesn't affect Search engine Result.

Use for reference purposes ok but which kind of reference? and one more thing It is using in meta tag so it diffidently giving some instruction to search engine

 

This meta tag is used to update your wordpress blog to the latest 2.5 version in order to stay secure because the prior wordpress 2.3 versions are having some serious security holes and your blog get hacked anytime...
So to keep secure of your blog..you should use <meta name="generator" content="WordPress 2.5" />...
