    Hey Guys,

Hope you can help me. After trying to create sitemaps in Google Webmaster using my page links, I got declined with a message:"Your pages are HTML format...."

So I'm trying to create the proper sitemap format with the free sitemap generator tool. However, after typing in my URL, I got a bunch of different links:

    - Download un-compressed XML Sitemap
    - Download compressed XML Sitemap
    - Download ROR Sitemap
    - Download HTML Sitemap
    - Download Sitemap in Text Format

Which one should I use and what is the next step from here?

That way then you can upload it to the root of your website, so you get something like this; http://www.yourwebsite.com.au/sitemap.xml

Then you can submit that url to google etc.

I'm lost at the part about "uploading it to the root of your website".

After clicking on that link, a file pop ups for me to open that has a bunch of codes. Do I insert those codes into the HTML property of my homepage?

Also will submitting a sitemap trigger Google to index changes to my site more frequently and quickly?

How is your website put together/designed?

What you should be able to do is take the file, (sitemap.xml) and then upload it via ftp, (or a file manager in cpanel/through your host), to where you host your website. The root directory is where your index.html or .php file is located.

Then you can point Google at your sitemap.

Regarding indexing etc. It is generally accepted that having a sitemap makes it easier for google and other search engines to index and track changes. This would be especially true for new websites.

Actually the site mentioned is a blog that's free hosted by Google, so I don't have access to it's cpanel. Any other way around this?

    - Download un-compressed XML Sitemap this is the one for search engines.
    - Download HTML Sitemap this is for users.
Once it's downloaded you can make changes or you can upload em directly.

    Thanks :)

you can use any of it. It is good to use "Download compressed XML sitemap" with the best searching and understanding for Search Engine. Because search engine can crawl in your xml sitemap and will read each page better.

When you select it, click on next and it will search all the pages of your site and will give the xml file. Now save it and upload in your site through ftp. Now when search engine reads your xml file, then it reads all the pages in your site and it crawls all the pages of your site.
