I'm trying to apply for a wildcard SSL certificate. I generated my CSR file and when I get to common name I enter *.mydomain.com. Then I went to my provider and began filling out the application. I got to the part about entering the CSR and copied and pasted it in there. But then it said that my common name is not a fully qualified domain name. I had this problem before on another domain I was generating a CSR for from a different SSL provider. I tried to go for wildcard, and it gave me this problem but since I figured they were only really ever going to use it for www I didn't need it for them so I went non-wildcard, but now I definitely need to figure it out b/c this is for our main certificate that definitely needs to be a wildcard. It's a renewal of an older certificate. When I generated my new CSR, I first output the old one to make sure I was using the same details. I don't get what's up. Can I just use the old CSR? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
You need to generate new CSR - you can PM me for help, just a few minutes. I'm always doing it with OpenSSL CLI and had no problems with wildcards. Do you trying renew non-wildcard certificate to wildcard one? Pricing typically slightly differs
