I have 2 doubts regarding the hosting of proxies.

1.How much space does a single proxy require?(say, using a PHPproxy script)

2.Why cant it be hosted in a shared hosting program if the bandwidth is something like 600GB/mo(like hostgator)??

    Thanks
    RK

space wise very little, just the script files and the images.

2 - proxies are not allowed on shared accounts because of the stress they place on the server which is shared by lots of other people essentially slowing there websites down. on a shared hosting account ur most likely to get around a 30GB/mo bandwidth limit which is also too little.

I think it has to do with CPU usage - even if you have enough bandwidth, your account will temporarily be suspended because of the heavy load a proxy puts on the server. You don't need much space for a proxy, but you would need bandwidth - the more traffic you have, the more bandwidth you will need.

As crumblepie said its to do with server resource usage. Proxy sites use a lot more than normal websites and as stated use twice the bandwidth. There are hosts that specialise in proxy hosting keep a look out for them.

You deffinatly need a vps or your own box for proxies. A shared host would be boot you off in no time. Proxy are resource hogs.
