Assuming your using XAMPP, and firefox...

Make sure you have an internet connection and/or XAMPP is enabled.

    To enable XAMPP:

Start the 'XAMPP Control Panel' and click 'Start' under 'Apache'.

Then once started, refresh firefox, an all should be fine.

Dan is correct thought I never knew you could do it that way until now. :)

Using Xampp I always entered via the control panel menu.

    Thanks for posting.

Do note that if you have passwords set it wants the phpmyadmin user name and pass and the one you have for localhost.

    hi danx10

    I am using PHPTriad.

I checked that PhPTriad enable, and when I refresh the browser I've got the same error.

do localhost AND localhost/phpmyadmin BOTH give the error?

    or only localhost/phpmyadmin ?

If only phpmyadmin, check if the map exists

if BOTH, your phptriad is prolly not running.

also, disable your firewall for 1 minute and see if that helps.

If nothing helps, just install XAMPP !!

get the latest version of xampp here :
    hxxp://www.apachefriends.org/download.php?xampp-win32-1.7.3.zip

    unzip, run setup.

start control panel, start apache, start xampp

    and it will work

where did u get xampp from? i've neve"r gotten an incomplete installation.

maybe there are still parts of your previous mysql on there, make sure u delete and uninstall all previous services etc

I do not run php or mysql as services because that loads them when you boot the computer. I simply start and stop them as I choose. Actually I did not even use the XAMPP installer version the second time around, I just downloaded and manually installed it in a directory. It functions like a window 3.1 program with no registry entries to make my life difficult.

If your earlier install was running mysql as a service you may have to disable that using msconfig before you can uninstall it and install any other AMP series.
