Hello, We have a website that has been in existence for a long time. We currently enjoy very good rankings on Google and others for our page content. We have just finished a complete re-write of all of the pages on our site. Because the way the new version is coded it is necessary to RENAME all of the pages... a page that used to be called "sights_12390_tr.asp" is now simply called "sights.asp" Our concern is that Google and others, that have been ranking our pages highly will try to go to the old version of the page and find it missing, thereby destroying all of our good ranking. 1) I have redirected the old url to new using 301,does it also redirects my traffic and page rank? 2) I view the new page but still i see the old url(sights_12390_tr.asp)and not new one(sights.asp)? Solutions will be appreciated.... Thanks in advance
You need to permanent redirects the old pages to new pages and at the same time, you have to remove the old pages from the index using webmaster tool
Hi I appreciate your answer, thanks for that If i remove my old urls then how do i maintain the same page rank(i have page rank 4) and traffic to my new urls?
You have to wait for some time, once page rank will gradually move to your new pages from old pages..
