    <meta name="keywords" content="myspace quality,myspace layouts,profile layouts,myspace surveys,unique layouts, free layouts,surveys,codes,generators,cute quotes,pickup lines,quality" />
    <meta name="description" content="Myspace Quality is one of the few myspace resource websites which only has high quality content, we have layouts, codes, generators, quotes, and even surveys. We only put the best content on myspacequality, our content is always up to date and our codes and layouts are tested regularly!" />
    Code (markup):
    This is the current meta tag i have on ever single page of my website. I was just curious, should ever page have their own set of keywords and description? Or is it fine to put the same meta tag throughout your whole website. Also is there a limit on how many keywords you can put?

    Thanks

    if each page has different contents, create a different description on each page. This way it will get indexed and your content can be found in search engine little better. i don't know the effectiveness of meta keywords used for search engines but I heard that unique title and description are the keys to better search results.

    i think it's better to use max. 5 keywords on one page and you must use different met tags on different pages

    I have done a lot of research on SEO. There are about 100 factors used by search engines to determine ranking. The following are just a few points that are used as a general guide.

    1) Title tag is by far the most important tag of all on-page-factor influencing your ranking. It is considered even more important than links To your page or visible text. It is similar to a book title. Optimize the title tag correctly and you will score well.
    2) Keywords tags This used to have importance in determining page rank. But due to spamming its imporance has gone down. Nevertheless, it should not be ignored. Some important search engines still rely on the keywords tags.
    *Optimize every page for differnet keywords and keep your theme in mind.
    * Use a maximum of 3 keywords per page.
    * Put the most important keywords/phrases at the begining.
    * Don't repeat the same keyword(s) more than 3 times in a row.
    * Try to avoid using "stop words" in your tag such as 'a', 'to', 'the', 'on', etc...
    * Your most important keywords should have 75% prominence in the tag.
    (example: If you consider the 3 keywords "search, engine, optimization" for your keyword tag, search= 100%, engine= 66.67% and optimization=33.33%. I don't want to go too technical so you don't get confused.)

    There are many other considerations that I have left out to allow

    Description tag: It used to have importance in influencing ranking in the past, now it is less important and Google for example uses it to determine the theme of your site only. But don't forget it has a weight to other important search engines and shouldn't be ignored.

    Guide line:

    • Use one description tag per page.
    • Description tag should be 2-3 sentences a max 250 characters.
    • Put your important keywords at the beginning of the description tag.
    • Avoid the use of stop words as much as possible.
    • Don’t repeat the same keywords more than 3 times in a row otherwise search engines will consider it spam.
    • To increase the importance of specific keywords repeat it up to a maximum of 5-7 times, but separate the two keywords/phrases with another word or use synonyms.

    There are other points which I have skipped due to time constraint.

    A good example would be to view the page source that you are reading now. Click on "view" next to "file"/"edit" of your browser and click "view source". You should read the following somewhere on the page:

    <meta name="keywords" content="Need Help With Meta Tags." />
    <meta name="description" content="Need Help With Meta Tags. (from Search Engine Optimization)" />

    Keep in mind that when you write on the web write for the reader (put yourself into the reader's mind) then optimize pages for search engines.

    Hope you find these information helful.
    Regards,
    Neez

    They might not be valued much when determining serps but they are still important because most of the time it is used to describe the page and encourages the visitors the click through....

    is it fine to put the same meta tag throughout your whole website?
    if you are referring to meta desc my answer is no.
    = = ==
    your desc: Myspace Quality is one of the few myspace resource websites which only has high quality content, we have layouts, codes, generators, quotes, and even surveys. We only put the best content on myspacequality, our content is always up to date and our codes and layouts are tested regularly!

    i think you should revise your descrition to increase CTR.

    here is my tip hopefully this will help you :)

    > check out those PPC adcopy from SE results and get some idea how they create their adcopy description
    > if you want you can test your description in PPC so you will get an idea which description gets higher CTR.
    > Use Capital letters and proper sentences.
    > Capitalize your letters to emphasize keywords and branding.
    > avoid superlative words ( BEST , MOST etc... )

    Myspacequality: To answer your question, I would say make sure that each pages meta tags reflect the content of the page they're on. They can be important if its the only bit of the site you can touch, but if not set and forget them. Now get on with title tags, H1, H2 etc and the off page stuff
