I like the logo in the site http://starrypics.com. I wanna know if you can suggest me a logo software which can create logos of the same type or better. I have a website with a white backgound and need some help to design a logo for my site

Well the power is not really in the software, it's how you use it. Illustrator is widely known as the industry standard but since you're a beginner you'd likely get lost with that program. Inkscape is a free open source "equivalent" of Illustrator. Your example was most likely done in Photoshop (of which Gimp is a free "equivalent").

Well photoshop if you want a non-resisable simple logo, but adobe illustrator (illy) was designed for logos, and does vector, which means that you can resize and image that you create to any size you want.

    Hello, hemanthjava,

I couldn't agree more with the explanation of tubbyman above.

Still, I guess if you are new to graphics adobe photoshop is much preferred.

In Illustrator you might very easily get lost. So give Photoshop a try.

And have the top of your day today :)

Agree. You're gonna need time to learn how to use Illustrator. As for me, I use another set of design creator CorelDraw Graphic Suite (It's something like Adobe CS2). Functions are the same, but less complex. Easy to understand. So whenever I'm drawing from scratch, I use Corel Draw. If I need to add effects like 3D feel to it I use Corel PhotoPaint (equivalent to Adobe Photoshop). The image is stored in vector format (if using CorelDraw) so you can edit it easily later. Plus you can convert it to Adobe Illustrator (AI) too so that if you need professional help to edit your logo, you can send that format (pro commonly use AI). And from the Graphic Suite, there's a program called CoralTrace, you can trace an image you had scan and draw it easily (used to do this, draw it on paper 1st, scan and trace it using graphic software. Much easier).

Looks to be a simple two color gradient... which most graphics programs can do. I use PhotoImpact by Ulead. Much easier to use than any Adobe product and far less expensive.

You might also want to check out The Logo Designer from Laughingbird Software (thelogocreator.com).

There are a number of cookie-cutter logo design software floating around which you can google for. However must say that they are for people who arent too creative.

So obviously I am a newbie to graphich design, but photoshop will let you create images? Not just edit/touch up photos?

Could someone use either Photoshop or Illustrator or GIMP to create something like either of these:

    http://www.infinitive.com/images/logo.gif
    http://www.tutorialized.com/images/adimage-samp.jpg

I have a lot of html/javascript experience but one thing I have never been able to do is create sleek and glossy looking sites, since I am pretty sure what makes these sites sleek and glossy looking are JPEGs that I just don't know how to create...

The second logo was definitely done in Photoshop, here is a tutorial which will help you design similar graphics: http://www.axialis.com/tutorials/tutorial-misc003.html

    Hi

Designers choose their tools some are good at 1 and some at other. We go for the following only:

    Adobe illustrator
    Adobe Photoshop
    Macromedia Fire Works
    Xara

In the end it all depends on your designing skills

    Thank You

    Hello,

You have to use Adobe Illustrator or Coral Draw for logo design, it will provide you vector based logo, so you can re-size it and use it any where.

Photoshop is more to retouching (though you can also make logo using it), coreldraw and illustrator is the best for making logo.
