Ok so I am trying to create a set of things that can be used to classify websites on a directory. So far, I couldn't come up with much! My first question is, if a website provides a product or a service, it's best classified as being a business, correct? And what if a website doesn't provide a product or a service but instead it provides information? Would it be right to classify such a website as a resource? What kind of a site would CNN be? And apart from products, services or information, what else can a website provide? I am hoping to find some help here. Regards.
The best form of flattery is imitation ... Some directories have descriptions of what each category is to be used for, e.g. http://www.dmoz.org/desc/Business/Accounting or to use one of your queries as an example, see where others are listing something like CNN: http://www.dmoz.org/search?q=CNN&cat=all&all=no
But that's categorization of listings, not classification. Sorry if the word classification is ambiguous. Listings under a category say 'Web Design and Development' could offer a number of things viz. products, services, information. That is what I am referring to as their classification.
