Need help with expiring domain

I had a website before, and then switched over to homestead to try to make it better. It was so bad I took it offline. Then I just couldn't get it accomplished. Now I finally have made a website to put online using homestead and my domain entered expiration on March 6 and has been in redemption since April 16. I really need to keep that domain. It was apparently never transferred correctly by homestead. I was told that they had taken care of all that. I can't believe they let my domain expire.

I called homestead and got the runaround. What do I need to do to keep my domain and get it active again?

Thanks for the help, I'm a total web n00b!

Who is your domain registrar - the site where you registered your domain? If it's still in redemption you may just be able to renew it. As far as I can see homestead is not a registrar; you cannot transfer your name there. You probably mean that you changed the name servers to homesteads.

I called Homestead again and got different answers. This time they told me to contact sitesell(which is where I registered the domain) directly and to work with them on the matter. So I sent them a support request email to which they are supposed to respond within 6 hours. Apparently that's the best they can do. I suppose that will solve the problem.

If you still remember your login and password, you can access your account at sitesell and renew the domain yourself.

You absolutely need to renew the domain FIRST before you can do anything else so whether through homestead or the other party, get the domain renewed (it will be more expensive because its in redemption) and the sooner you start the renewal process, the cheaper the renewal will be. Like one of the previous contributors said...if you have login to the domain it will make life easier...if your contact details is listed as the admin contact, you can have the admin login emailed to you.

never mind, I'll just report that post.

Thanks for all the help. I've gotten in touch with the people who registered the domain for me originally and am getting it out of redemption for $160. Hopefully it will be complete in a few days and I can get it transferred and online and move on with my life. I don't know a whole lot about websites but I do know that Homestead is either going to refund or give me $160 in credits or I am finding another hosting service. Their handling of this situation has been atrocious. They never completed the transfer, let my domain expire, failed to give the correct advice until subsequent phone calls, and are generally continuing to flub the whole situation. Up until now I thought that their service was fantastic, answer the phone quickly, give pretty good support, and English is their first language, but at least for me, this is a monumental screw up. So that's my homestead review. Sitesell/SBI! was who I originally got the domain through and they are handling this situation very well. I have nothing but good things to say about how they are handling this and getting my domain out of redemption, although I didn't care for their product.
