    Hi All,

I have two sites on dreamhost they both are using wordpress as blogging platform. Yesterday, noth sites gave 500 server error and today again they are painfully slow...I asked about it from dreamhost they replied saying

The 500 errors you are getting is because your
scripts are getting killed off for too much memory usage. This is not
that the site is down or that the server is having problems.

You will want to reduce the amount of memory that your scripts are using.
Using caching plugins or static rather than dynamic pages are generally
the measures put in place to reduce the memory load.

Can some one tell what can I do to resolve this? let me know if you require more info.

Are you using WP-Cache Plugin? That'll help you take the load off the MySQL server.

thanks xubz but u know my sites are quite new, one has 5 posts and the other has only 2 so I don't understand (even without the WP-cache plug-in) why are they using "too much system memory"

Well. Does your site get large amount of Traffic/Hits?

Since your site is on Shared Hosting, You'll be limited to very small amount of Memory. I don't think only your site is getting affected. If you get a Error 500, That Probably means every site hosted on the same box as your's should be too! (AFAIK).

Wordpress has a history of taking down a database server if it gets large amount of hits (something like when your site gets mentioned in Digg/something). It doesn't quite depend on the number of posts! :)

I'd suggest you read some of the How-Tos on making Wordpress Faster.

I am agree with all the post but simply empty the .htaccess and put one echo at top of the main index.php fine and then check it. If it is working then the problem is with your .htaccess file; may be there are some .htaccess rule issues. good luck
