The first majorly popular anime that hit Japanese television was called Tetsuwan Atom which was created by Osamu Tezuka in 1963. This was later to appear on american television under the name Astro Boy and has become one of the most popular and inspiring animations of all time. Other noticeable anime's include Mach Go-Go-Go otherwise known as Speed Racer, Kaitei Shonen Marin otherwise known as Marine Boy.

The history of anime began in Japan in the 20th century when japanese filmmakers would experiment with the anime techniques that were being exploored in the west. During the 1970's anime progressed even further with a few noticeable filmmakers making their mark on the animation world including Hayao Miyazaki who is the creator of some of the best Studio Ghibli films such as My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away and Hells Moving Castle.

In the 1980's anime was accepted more into the mainstream of Japan and in the 1990's saw some of the best anime series to ever make it out. Series such as Ghost in the Shell, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Cowboy Bebop came out and really made a difference in the way animation was made. Even now up to 10-15 years later this series are still being watched by fans worldwide. Spirited Away shared the first prize at the 2002 Berlin film festival and won the Academy award for best animation in 2003.

Animation has developed so much over the years with the quality of the animation almost doubled since the 1990's. Some key animations work that really stands out includes Dragon Ball Z. You will find after watching a lot of anime how noticeable lots of japanese animation is compared to Dragon Ball Z.

Below is an image that shows anime throughout the ages dating from the 60's up to the current. Which era is your favourite.

History Of Manga!

Manga also pronounced as (MAHN-ga) or japanese comics. Manga has been developed for hundreds of years, first starting as pictures drawn on temple walls, then on wooden blocks and finally as woodblock prints with captions collected on books. Over time the captions became stories and the art became sequential. By the early 20th century manga had become the main form of literature for most of japanese society.

Yearly sales of manga throughout the 1990's have been in the neighborhood of 600 billion yen, including 350 billion in magazine sales and 250 billion in paperbacks. These figures do no not include sales of manga appearng in general magazines and newspapers. The total sales of published material in Japan (including magazines and books but excluding newspapers) is two trillion five-hundred billion yen, of which manga sales account for nearly one quarter. Given a total Japanese population of 120 million, we can calculate that the average Japanese spends approximately 2,000 yen per year on manga in one form or another.

A common question between anime and manga is how are they different? When you read a manga and then watch the anime are they the same? The question can vary and usually you will find that the manga has a lot more to offer than what is being shown in the anime. Anime's strictly have a budget when manga's generally don't as they are hand drawn from mangaka artists and can keep going till either the artist get's bored or think that it is time to finish it in a way that will please it's readers.

The three largest publishing houses producing manga are Kodansha, Shogakkan, and Shueisha. In addition there are some ten odd publishing firms which come in at a close second, including Akita Shoten, Futabasha, Shonen Gahosha, Hakusensha, Nihon Bungeisha, and Kobunsha. This is not even to mention the countless other small-scale publishing firms. The larger publishers mentioned above also publish magazines and books in areas outside of manga.

It is estimated that there are around 3000 professional manga artists in Japan. All of these individuals have published at least one volume of manga, but most of them make their living as assistants to famous manga artists or have some other supplementary source of income. Only 300 of these, or ten percent of the total, are able to make an above-average living from manga alone. In addition, there are also a great number of amateur manga artists who produce small magazines intended for private circulation, called dojinshi.

Fun Fact: Did you know that manga is read from right to left instead of the usual left to right!

What's The Difference!

There has always been a lot of discussion around the differences between anime and manga and here are some key differences.

Anime

Manga

Anime is animation that you watch.

Manga is a book that you read.

Unlike manga, anime has a budget to abide by.

Manga is longer than anime.

A major difference between anime and manga is the length of a series. In a series, if the anime get's close to catching up with the manga the production company will implement fillers which are as the name sounds "filler episodes" or as i like to call a complete waste of time. They have no connection with the manga but are a way for the company that makes the anime to earn more money and to let the manga get further ahead.

In terms of popularity the manga of a series is always more popular than the anime for many reasons. Some anime's can be filled with fillers and course viewers to lose interest whilst the manga always follows the main storyline that the mangaka artist wants it too. Another reason is a manga has a full storyline leaving nothing out whilst in the anime they can leave parts of the manga out to save time and money so you won't get the full experience of the story unless you have read the manga. Both are extremely popular in Japan and all around the world in other countries.

If you are new to anime and unsure what it's like then i would suggest the following titles to watch. Fullmetal Alchemist, Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Naruto. All four that i mentioned are some of the most popular anime to ever hit Japan and personally are ones that got me into anime in the first place. As for manga i would suggest reading Astro Boy, Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist. They are fantastic starters to read and will be sure to leave you wanting to read more.

Below are 2 trailers from Fullmetal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion. To do this the production goes through a series of steps which start out from having meetings with the author of the manga to ensure everything is alright with the author and the author is happy with how they are setting out the anime. After that they move on to the production company and then begin writing storyboards and getting such things as character designs set out and ready. After that comes the main production of the anime and finally the post production which includes the voice acting roles, editing the anime and eventually dubbing the anime for viewers outside of Japan to see it. As you can tell a lot of work goes in to producing anime and each episode can take months and months to make depending on what needs to be done.

Below is an image showing the stages of anime production. Many thanks to Washi over at Washi Blog for this image.

There are many studio's situated in Japan that produce anime with some of the big names being Bones, Toei Animation, Studio Ghibli and Sunrise. Just these companies alone have been responsible for making some of the best animated series and movies to ever be released in Japan. Studio Ghibli with films such as Ponyo, Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle have all earned many awards. Sunrise creating such anime as the Gundam series and Cowboy Bebop, both very popular and noticeable anime's.

Here is a subtitled video showing how Japanese animation is made and what steps are involved. Many thanks to Ptjuusitalo for the video.

Mangaka Artists!

Mangaka is a japanese word for comic artist or cartoonist. Outside of Japan, manga is usually referred to as a Japanese comic book and mangaka refers to the author of the manga. Since around 2006 there have been around 3000 professional mangaka working in Japan. Some of the most noticeable mangaka artists include Osamu Tezuka who is the author of Astro Boy, Naoko Takeuchi who is the author of Sailor Moon, Akira Toriyama who is the author of Dragon Ball and Masashi Kishimoto who is the author of Naruto which is part of the top 3 manga's available in Japan. Masashi Kishimoto thinks of Akira Toriyama as a strong mentor and is what inspired him to become a mangaka artist in the first place. When reading his manga you will notice a similar style to the way Dragon Ball was drawn.

Many mangaka have assistants to help them with their artwork. The duties for assistants vary on every mangaka author and can range from sketching out rough drawings for chapters up to filling in all the details. It is not a necessity to have an assistant but it does take a lot of the pressure away from the original authors, especially for those that release new chapters of their manga's on a weekly basis.

Below are two videos showing an interview with a japanese mangaka artist Shin Shinmoto. The videos have been subtitled and many thanks to SamuraiMangaWorkshop for the videos.

Voice Acting!

Voice acting is a major part of animation as they provide the voiceovers for all our favourite characters. The voice actors for anime over in Japan are quite different to the ones based around America. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that Japanese voice actors do speak another language to our ones but also that they are cast in very limited roles. American voice actors play many roles and it is very easy to tell just by watching many anime whilst japanese voice actors are only cast in one anime or in some cases two or three. Japanese voice actors take pride in the characters they are cast as and to the Japanese population they are looked up to more as that character than who they really are.

Here is a short video showing one of the most popular voice actors over in Japan, Aya Hirano. She is most famous for her role as Haruhi Suzumiya in the anime Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. Special thanks to BahaVII for the video.

The voice actors that do the dubbed versions of anime take on many roles with some of the most popular voice actors doing voiceovers for more than 50 anime's. Please take a look at the link i have posted below which is an article that will show you how to become a voice actor, what's involved and the benefits.

So You Want To Be A Voice Actor

© 2011 Me. If every time text is going to be fix and text is not much than you can hardcode text. and no need ajax at all. If you want to use ajax then follow following link : http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/ajax_aspphp.asp Let me know if you stuck somewhere. Sheetal G
why do you need ajax for doing that can't you just use the accordion ? here is the jquery ui example for accordion http://jqueryui.com/demos/accordion/
